The tiny shop sells dried mushrooms, tinctures and edibles, but the focus is on the fresh stuff. Inside, there’s a minimalist atmosphere, with mushroom art on the walls and books on magic mushrooms. “I think there’s a real demand for it,” owner Trevor Kagan says. He’s been in business two years, making up to $50,000 per month. “You can just see that people are interested.”
Kagan and others like him have noticed subtle policy changes that suggest psilocybin might be moving toward legalization, similar to what happened with cannabis before its legalization. The federal government has decriminalized possession of other drugs, such as heroin and cocaine, but not psilocybin.
